The Kasitsna Bay Laboratory is located on the south shore of Kachemak Bay, nine road miles east of the village of Seldovia on Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Kachemak Bay is an arm of Cook Inlet, in south-central Alaska.
The Laboratory is owned by NOAA and operated jointly by NOAA and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Proposals to conduct research at the Kasitsna Bay Laboratory utilizing scuba techniques are encouraged. The Center is also interested in receiving developmental proposals for scuba projects at the Laboratory, including support of graduate student thesis research. Such support will primarily be in the form of travel, housing, and lab fees, but modest additional support may be negotiable.
Contact the Center for information on the facilities, scheduling, and fees. For dive certification and reciprocity information, contact the Diving Safety Officer, Dr. Stephen Jewett, or the chair of the UA Dive Control Board, Dr. Brenda Konar.
